01
Years ago, Patryk built a spreadsheet to reconcile our bills and forecast our family budget. Nothing revolutionary. Just something to make our lives easier.
Then a simple cut-and-paste error caused real cash-flow problems.
Patryk's reaction was very Patryk:
“Why are we doing this manually at all?”
So he started automating it.
We weren't building a company. We were solving our own problem.
02
Then life made the problem bigger.
Later, when we started doing business in Cameroon, the system needed to handle multiple currencies.
That forced Patryk to make the architecture more general.
Supporting multiple currencies changed the nature of the problem. A payment could not always be reduced to a single exchange rate or converted immediately. If €100 arrived today and $100 was expected tomorrow, the most efficient choice might be to keep the euros and match them with a future euro payment. The system needed to understand not just value, but context.
As usual, Patryk did not stop at making the system work. He kept refining it until it could reason through the complexity and make the best currency decision for each situation.
And somewhere along the way, something clicked:
“If the system can deal with different currencies, why couldn't it represent other financial instruments, too?”
That question changed everything.
03
Then came the breakthrough.
Instead of asking the system:
“What will happen to our finances?”
Patryk started asking:
“What if I just tell the computer where I want to end up?”
Could it work out the decisions required to get me there?
Soon, that question took him deep into mathematics, graph theory and portfolio management.
Years of engineering followed.
Eventually, the technology which was originally intended to simplify a family budget was able to find not just the best sequence of currency conversions, but virtually unrestricted portfolio investment strategies, with complex risk hedges, financial compliance, tax rules and mind bending stock brokerage fee structures.
All by telling the computer what we actually want to achieve, and letting it work out how to get us there.
Patryk saw the breakthrough.
I saw what it could become.
04
I started thinking about the people.
Investment knowledge was everywhere.
Professionals, analysts and financial creators were sharing how they thought about money and markets every day.
But for the person listening, there was still a huge gap between:
“That's an interesting investment idea.” → “How do I actually use it?”
That's when I stopped seeing our tool as just technology.
I saw a marketplace.
A place where investment ideas could become something people could share, discover, understand, make their own and put into action.
05
That became Uliaa.
What started as a spreadsheet for our family became technology for programmable portfolio management — and eventually, the foundation for a new kind of investment marketplace.
We're still building it.
And the idea that started at our kitchen table is now much bigger than either of us imagined.
Your money. Your way.
